Camillus Carnivore 18" Titanium Bonded Machete is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Knife This knife is the first large, fixed blade knife I have owned and I have to say, it is well worth the cost of getting one of these. I have used it very little, but with hunting season just around the corner, I can see may uses for this knife. Only problem I can find is that the grip had paint chips when I purchased it from the store and the paint started flaking quickly after only 5-10 minutes of use. The grip is also very slick when you get any dampness on your hands. I nearly lost the knife from my hands while swinging the knife because I was sweating. Rubber pads would be worth adding. Other then that, a very solid and dependable knife

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great idea, poorly constructed tang though. Tang has broken inside the handle. The Tang should have another quarter inch added to the thickness, at least, if not a half an inch. And the holes should be centered in the future. A full tang design would last even better for a chopper design like this. Also gluing, or apoxying the tang onto the handle would prevent shock and movement related failures of the knife as a whole. Aside from that the knife was excellent before it broke. I enjoyed the feel of it while it was being swung through the air. The impact as it struck it's target was reasonable and had the desired result. The edge held up to quite a bit of use. With a redesign I would happily buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They stand behind their products!!! I received this Camillus Carnivore 18" machete as a gift from my little brother. Upon early usage, the blade broke inside the handle. I emailed the company with no reply, so I called; they (Acme United Corp)were very helpful on where and how to return this product for warranty replacement. They managed to replace, VERY fast via delivery service! They replaced even without the original packaging or receipt!! They even sent a real nice Camillus lapel pin as a gift!!! Nice experience overall folks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from COMMERCIAL USE Im a land surveyor, and former Marine. I use this blade, on a minimum, 5 times a week. Ive broke 2, one was from a 3" oak tree when i used to much force and wasn't cutting at the right angle and the other was trying to use like a hammer. this is over 2 years. I have a strong swing and as long as you use proper technique this Machete will serve you well. This is alot better then those flimsy Machetes out there and i am Thoroughly satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Camillus carnivor 2 I'm ex-army and I find people crying about hacking through 2x4's and it breaking almost silly. It's a brush knife....Use some 550 cord on the handle because of the poor grip and it's perfect. I've used it to wack up some bushes and tall grasses and vines, but I never tried to cut a tree down with it or cut through bricks. I picked mine up at local mega store. I also use it in the car b/c the "wire cutter" makes a great emergency seat belt cutter. fyi for the price dose not get much better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from awesome knife....light brush machette on ive owned and use this knife for about 1 year.mostly used is for hunting...clearing light brush and vines in the trails.some fishing use,cut up fire timber. the grip feels great, ballanced good. 2 days ago I was chopping up some 1 inch diameter branches for a camp fire, and the blade finally broke.had a few chips on the tip before. my knife was always taken care of and stored properly. overall a great knife.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Tool for Outdoorsmen I have not used this tool yet in the outdoors, but first impressions out-of-the-box are favorable. My favorite thing is that the blade has a very hefty back-bone on the top edge, making for a powerful delivery. The saw-edge and the wire-cutter were both very sharp... but the cutting edge seemed a bit dull to me, at first. But the more I thumbed it, I realized - - - hey... this is a machete... probably not supposed to be razor sharp. Anyway, two minutes on my diamond hone could get it shaving-sharp. The sheath is well made, with a very wide belt loop, which I love. I cannot abide a sheath with a tiny loop! I encountered no such grip problems as mentioned before, as to being chipped out of the box. Mine was perfect. I only wish the rubberized grip had a bit more texture to it, it's a tad slick. All-in-all, this looks to be an excellent tool from Camillus.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Camillus Carnivore = Very Useful Tool I have cut and chopped just about anything you can imagine -- and my Carnivore just keeps taking it. I dug and cut out a big tree root which other tools couldn't handle. I especially like the serrated edge -- it's something else. I just wish the plain cutting edge were a little longer. Nonetheless, it sharpens easily and holds a good edge. The titanium finish is very durable too. So either I am lucky and received a good one, or some of these horror stories are a bit slanted. Case in point: I heard that the handles quickly fell off so I went about finding a better way to secure them. It was a bear to get the screws out! Fall off indeed! I had to use a drill and really work at it. I now have bolts and nuts in place, but wish I had left the factory screws in place. Bottom line: I believe my Carnivore is a great cutting tool.

Ask a question

What's the grind angle for the blade ?

Asked by: Poorboy
If you plan to be doing more chopping and have more thicker brush in your area, then we would recommend a 25-30 degree angle. If you plan to do more slicing an 18-25 degree angle is recommended.

How do you use the"wire cutter" notch to cut wire?,...I can see how to use it as a gut hook, but don't think the blade will cut wire,....just don't get it????

Asked by: Johnny
The sharpened notch at the tip of the Carnivore allows you to either cut wire or cord. You simply take the wire or cord that you are looking to cut and pull it into the notch. Be sure to hold your hand on the handle as you pull. See photo attached for reference.
